Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is based on the principles of nonviolence, which is the natural state of compassion when the heart is free of violence. NVC starts with the assumption that we are all compassionate by nature, and that violent strategies—whether verbal or physical—are acquired habits that are taught and encouraged by the dominant society. NVC also posits that we all have the same basic human needs and that every activity is a plan to meet one or more of them. NVC practitioners have reported improved communication honesty, increased comprehension, deeper connection, and conflict resolution.
