Laminated Glass Film: The Difference Between Pvb And Eva

PVB and EVA are the two most common and widely used types of laminated glass interlayers. Today, let's take a look at the difference between PVB and EVA.

Commonly used interlayer films for laminated glass are PVB film, SGP film, EVA film, PU film, etc.

PVB and EVA are the two most common and widely used types of laminated glass interlayers. Today, let's take a look at the difference between PVB and EVA.

The main differences between PVB film and EVA film are as follows:

The resins used are different: one is EVA resin and the other is PVB resin.

The processing temperature is different: the processing temperature of EVA film is about 110 degrees, and the temperature of PVB film is 120-130 degrees.

The processing equipment used is different: the glass deep processing equipment of EVA film is EVA glass laminating machine, which is easy to operate and low in cost. The disadvantage is that it cannot be mass-produced; the glass deep-processing equipment for PVB film is a laminated glass production line + autoclave, which is costly and complicated to operate. After pressing, it needs to be pre-pressed, and then heated and pressed into the autoclave. The advantage is that it can be produced in large quantities, and the disadvantage is that there are few glass orders and high processing costs.

The processing and storage conditions are different: PVB needs low temperature (18-22°C) dry (humidity 25% 40%) storage, which is very strict on humidity, but at high temperature (120-140°C) pressure (1.0 -1.5MPa), and the autoclave is mostly used for production; EVA storage conditions are relatively low, the temperature does not exceed 30°C, the humidity is less than 80%, and the requirements for lamination equipment are also low, vacuum degree 700mmHg ( 0.092Mpa), temperature 100- 110 °C; The lamination process of PVB is more complicated than that of EVA, which takes a long time and consumes a lot of energy.

Different water absorption: the water absorption of EVA film is extremely low, less than 0.1%; the water absorption of PVB film is high.

Different machine sizes: EVA laminating furnace needs 6000L x 2200W x 2000H mm, PVB laminating line needs 47000L x 9000W x 4000H mm.

Different glass application fields: EVA laminated glass is mainly used for indoor partitions and decoration due to the low melting point of EVA film. It is suitable for laminated glass with EVA film interlayer and wire mesh or cloth mesh to make decorative glass with rich patterns and materials; or it is suitable for outdoor low-rise glass because if it is used for outdoor high-rise, the film will soften when the outdoor temperature is high, thereby reducing the viscosity. The joint strength is easy to cause the glass to fall off; EVA has good water resistance, but its UV resistance is average, and it is easy to yellow and age in the sun. Generally, EVA is not suitable for external curtain walls.

Jiaxing Fuying Composite Materials Co., Ltd. is a mono solar panels manufacturer and supplier in China. The company owns the mono solar panel factory. It sells  PV solar panels and PVB films all year round.
