Metal Jacketed Gaskets, as the name implies, consists of a metal shell and non-metallic packing.
The filler material gives the gasket elasticity, while the metal sheath protects the filler and resists pressure, temperature, and corrosion.
Metal Jacketed Gaskets are available in a variety of sizes and configurations.
They are traditionally used in heat exchanger applications, pumps and valves; although the elasticity and recovery characteristics of these gaskets are limited. In order to effectively seal, Metal Jacketed Gaskets require a smooth flange surface finish, high bolt load, and flange flatness.
Single jacket gasket
The filler material is encapsulated in a metal sheath, which covers the inner and outer diameters of the gasket. Typically used in low-pressure applications, including boilers, compressors, pumps, and diesel and gasoline engines
Double jacket gasket
Double-jacketed gaskets are used in boiler and heat exchanger applications when there are enough bolt connections to properly install the gasket. They are designed for high-pressure and high-temperature applications up to ANSI 900.
The gasket width can be as narrow as 8 mm (5/16 inch) according to the diameter. It is also possible to produce very large gasket diameters. The standard gasket thickness is 3.2 mm (1/8 inch).
Metal Jacketed Gaskets can be manufactured with integral or welded partitions, with various complex configurations.
