What do we know about Doraemon apart from the cute animated cartoon it is? Is it a story? Or is it an interactive puzzle? Both? Both? It's easy to lose track of continuity in a book or series of books, as the author often changes the subject matter from one episode to the next. A few days ago, as I was reading Doraemon, I began to compare between the games of earlier and later.
While Doraemon has no strong plot but it does have enough clues to make it an enjoyable read. In the beginning of the story, a time ago in the small town of Agate, a young boy lived in the street that was named "Doraemon Go" with his family. He and his younger sister returned home from school one day only to find an unusual and strange animal roaming the streets. They thought it might be wild and ran behind their home to hide. A while passed, and one day, the boy's father returned home to find his wife's leg bleeding due to an injury to her leg.
Then, the residents were aware that this animal was a talking doraemon and had moved into their community. The issue was that he wasn't a human. The children took the frightened creature for a walk and forgot about their previous incident. A news report in the local paper stated that a new show on television, known as "Doraemon" was being broadcast and would soon be on the local station of television.
In the immediate aftermath of this announcement many people wondered if animated series doraemon would be a hit with children. The answer was a resounding "Yes". Adults and children alike were attracted by the soft spirit and unique story dwelling itself throughout the Japanese anime series of doraemon movies. As more kids were drawn to the show, so too did the producers of the doraemon films become keen to make more Doraemon films.
In response to this demand that was unprecedented some short films were created to be a part of the highly acclaimed anime series. The Doraemon film "Nekomamori hoshi no ka", which was called "Nekomamori o ka" is among the most popular.
It literally translates to "Ranking up". The film was directed by Takuo Hayashi, the feature film revolves around a young boy who lives a carefree life among the green trees in a tranquil town called Hoshi Town, until one day he encounters a strange and menacing creature who takes control of his body and tries to take control of the kingdom.
Directed by Koichi Yamane, the film appears to be a remake of an earlier anime series called Dragon Guard: The Roar Generation. The concept of the new film is much like that of the Dragon Guard series where the main characters are depicted as creatures native to the Japanese islands known as the islands. This time however the movie will be dealing with an American protagonist called Suneo who is working with doraemon in order to restore peace in his homeland. Suneo faces many obstacles including the greedy Gorgons' bosses and the most powerful of them all is the Gorgon King. Suneo must fight enemies both inside and outside his kingdom and must also face new enemies, while trying to bring peace to his kingdom.
The March 2021 movie has received positive reviews from both Japanese and international public. The reason for this is two fold. First, it's an excellent example of how animation can be successfully converted into live action and how well the makers of doraemon know this. The story itself is fascinating and appealing to the viewers. The 21st March in Japanis not just a country where Japanese rule is still practiced however, it is a multicultural society that proudly recognizes the cultural diversity of its many neighbors.
With the use of computer voice recording software such as Digivice and VoiceFX, the voice of Suneo can sound very human and convincing as the doraemon's leader. Additionally, the re-interpretation of Japanese culture into the 21st March Century America adds another dimension to the story, which makes it more enjoyable. It's important to keep in mind that this story is not meant to impart any knowledge about the world. The story is about how everyday things can be transformed into beautiful things using simple tools and the determination to make it happen. This is the underlying concept of the doraemon franchise and it is what everyone must master in order to be successful in this technologically advanced world.
