Open port means either a TCP or an UDP port number is actively accepting packets. If a service runs on a specific port, that port is utilised and can?t be used for other purposes (by another service). For example, you can run a website using an Apache web server on port 80/TCP. In contrast, a port that rejects or ignores the connection attempts is called a closed port.
