• Customers with last-minute changes can expect a free alternative flight, starting today, August 4.
• Customers can make changes to their trip through delta.com and the Fly Delta app.

As of August 4, customers who need to change Delta Airline on the same day of departure can now wait for an alternative flight without paying a fee. The new flight must depart the same day and reservation requests or a confirmed change must be made within 24 hours prior to departure. Customers can make their trip change the same day directly from the Fly Delta app or delta.com.

“Flexibility has never been more important, so we want to give our customers more choice and control over their travel plans than ever before. By enabling same-day trip changes directly in the Fly Delta app, customers will also save valuable time by rescheduling their plans while on the go, without waiting in line at the airport or calling Reservations, ”said Sandeep Dube, Senior Vice President of Delta's Price and Income Management.

Delta is constantly offering new ways for customers to feel secure when booking their travel, from eliminating most change fees to extending the validity of travel credits through the end of 2022. Recently, Delta enabled the flexibility for Basic Economy customers to make changes to their next trip during 2021.

Same-day travel changes

To make a trip change on the same day in the Fly Delta application, customers can select the option "Delta Airlines change Flight", to search for alternative flights and select a confirmed or on hold option.

If a seat is available in the originally purchased fare class, customers can only change their ticket to a confirmed seat on the new flight for a fee of US $ 75.

If a confirmed seat is not available, customers can wait for an available seat for free. If there is a seat available, they will not be charged a fee.

Same day changes are available for all domestic tickets except Basic Economy. Trip changes confirmed for the same day are still free for SkyMiles Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members.
