Australian LNG output hit by Shell, Chevron outages this week

MELBOURNE/SINGAPORE - Dec 3 (Reuters). Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSa.L.) stopped production at its Prelude floating liquefied gas (LNG (LNG) site. Chevron Corp [CVX.N. ] also stopped production at one of its Gorgon LNG plants, both in northwestern Australia.

MELBOURNE/SINGAPORE - Dec 3 (Reuters). Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSa.L.) stopped production at its Prelude floating liquefied gas (LNG (LNG) site. Chevron Corp [CVX.N. ] also stopped production at one of its Gorgon LNG plants, both in northwestern Australia.

Shell stated that Prelude was affected by a power outage Thursday morning after smoke was detected within an electrical utility area. The facility is now running on backup diesel generators. The company stated that smoke did not spread to the area and all workers are safe.

"While work continues to restore main power," a Shell spokesperson stated in an email statement. 

The company did not give a timeframe for the restoration of output or the resumed cargo loading at the facility that handles 3.6 million tonnes per year.

A spokesperson for Chevron said that Train 3 was shut down at its 15.6 million tonne per year Gorgon LNG plant. After discovering and fixing a small gas leak on Train 1, Chevron shut down Train 3 on Wednesday. read more

 The spokesperson stated that after the restart and successful repair of Gorgon LNG Train 1, we had to shut down LNG Train 3 to make repairs on the piping.

She stated that "Production continues from LNG trains 1 and 2", adding that gas was still being delivered regionally and to the Western Australian domestic markets.
