Portable Versus Fixed X-ray Equipment

X -rays have gained popularity recently. They are used to take images of specific human body parts to help in diagnosis and treatment.

 Portable Versus Fixed X-ray Equipment

Technology has impacted the different sectors in different ways. The health sector has benefited from new technology as machines are being innovated. The machine has made it for medics to make easy diagnoses within a few minutes. One such machine is X-ray equipment. There are two types of this equipment: portable and fixed X-ray machines. Now the question is, what's the difference between the two?

Portable X-ray Machine

Portable X-ray has been an essential tool when it comes to diagnosis and patient monitoring. It's been used in the intensive care unit, prisons, nursing homes, or shelters for homeless people where transfer to hospital is a bit of a challenge. A portable chest X-Ray is said to be 84.5 % accurate in giving the desired results of a patient's diagnosis. However, mobile radiography services for radiological assessment of patients in nursing homes have been realistic. These machines have offered good quality images and also allow patients comfort.

Mostly in hospitals, they have fixed X-rays. It's said that one out of 123 patients had to repeat radiography due to bad quality images. However, with the portable, all the images came out clear and were adequate for diagnosis.

Mobile digital X-Ray was responsive and precise in detecting pulmonary tuberculosis for the homeless, prisoners, and drug users. These machines have a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity of 99.2% in detecting pulmonary tuberculosis.

From observation, the portable x-ray has a lot of benefits compared to fixed X-rays. So, here are some of the benefits it offers.

Mobility

As the name suggests, it means the machine can be moved from one place to another. It helps medics image patients from their exam room rather than moving from room to room. In addition, it also allows them to give radiography services outside the facility.

Versatility

The portability of the machine enables service delivery and diagnosis anywhere. Services can be given to patients in any situation, which was a challenge earlier as fixed x-ray couldn't be moved. It makes it easier to deliver services in:

  • Local clinics without radiology equipment
  • Prisons
  • Disaster hit areas
  • Sporting events and venues
  • Nursing homes for the elderly people

The machine is efficient and life-saving as medics can carry it to any location for a diagnosis and effective treatment.

Easy to Use

These machines are easy to use due to their intuitive design. As said earlier, it's portable, so it needs to come in a design that can be operated in dangerous, chaotic situations where mistakes can be consequential. In addition, they share digital information with ease, effortlessly interfacing with picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). This helps emergency rooms in treating patients quickly.

Good Image Quality

While the machine is easy to operate, the image it provides is also critical. Researchers found out that 1 out of 241 radiography examinations done in the hospital had to be repeated. This means that the fixed x-ray machine's picture quality is not as good as the portable x-ray machine. In addition, the picture is not affected regardless of the location. So, if you want to get one, you can check a portable digital X-ray machine for sale for better diagnosis.

Fixed x-ray machines are unique in their way. But, portable machines come with many benefits that can help save more lives no matter the situation or location.
