Autonomous vehicles utilize a fully automated driving system in order to enable the vehicle to respond to external conditions that can be managed by a human driver.

What are the 6 levels of self-driving cars?

There are six different levels of automation, and as the level increases, so does the degree of independence the driverless car has in terms of operational control.

At level 0, the car has no control over its operation and the human driver is responsible for all driving duties.

At level 1, the vehicle's ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) has the ability to support the driver in steering or accelerating and braking.

At Level 2, ADAS can supervise steering and acceleration and braking in certain situations, although the human driver needs to continue to pay complete attention to the driving environment throughout the journey, while also performing the remaining necessary tasks.

At Level 3, ADS (Advanced Driving System) can perform all parts of the driving task under certain conditions, but requires the human driver to be able to regain control when required to do so by ADS. In the remaining conditions, the human driver performs the necessary tasks.

In Level 4, the vehicle's ADS is able to perform all driving tasks independently under certain conditions that do not require human attention.

Finally, level 5 involves full automation, where the vehicle's ADS is able to perform all tasks under all conditions without the need for driving assistance from the human driver. This full automation will be enabled by the use of 5G technology, which will allow vehicles to communicate not only with each other, but also with traffic lights, signage and even the road itself.

One aspect of vehicle technology used in self-driving cars is ACC, or Adaptive Cruise Control. This system automatically adjusts the speed of the vehicle to ensure that it maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front of it. This function relies on information obtained through sensors on the vehicle and allows the car to perform tasks such as braking if it senses that it is approaching any vehicle in front of it. This information is then processed and the appropriate commands are sent to the actuators in the vehicle which control the car's reactive actions such as steering, acceleration and braking. Highly automated vehicles with fully automatic speed control are able to respond to signals from traffic lights and other such non-vehicular activities.

What are the advantages?

Autonomous vehicle technologies may be able to offer certain advantages over human-driven vehicles. One potential advantage is that they could provide more road safety - vehicle collisions kill many people each year, and self-driving vehicles may be able to reduce the number of casualties because the software used in them may make fewer errors compared to humans. A reduction in the number of accidents could also reduce traffic congestion, another potential advantage offered by self-driving vehicles. Autonomous driving can also be achieved by eliminating human behaviour that causes road congestion, particularly stop-and-go traffic.

Another possible advantage of autonomous driving is that people who cannot drive - due to factors such as age and disability - can use self-driving cars as a more convenient transport system.

Other advantages offered by self-driving cars are the elimination of driving fatigue and the ability to sleep during overnight trips.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, an absolute record has been set in 2021 — 3 million industrial robots are already working in factories around the world, which is 10% more than a year ago, and in the future their number will only grow.  To share the experience of Ivan Pyrukhin Integrator operator robotics systems. https://www.crewing.info/
