Types of XLPE Insulated Cables
Low Voltage (LV)
Used in residential wiring and small equipment, usually rated up to 1kV.

Medium Voltage (MV)
Typically ranges between 1kV and 35kV. Common in industrial zones and substations.

High Voltage (HV)
XLPE HV cables go beyond 35kV and are used in long-distance transmission.

Extra High Voltage (EHV)
Used in national grids—these cables can carry up to 500kV and beyond.

It is light in weight, flexible, soft in touch, strong and tough in physical properties, resilient and resistant to moisture, chemicals and extreme temperature. It typically offers superior thermal stability and insulating properties improved dimensional consistency and stability over a wide range of fabrication methods and end-user’s conditions. It is easy to work in fabricating and thermoforming. XLPE foams work well in the building and construction industry where thermal insulation, sound and vibration are critical, due to its low moisture permeability and high buoyancy.

Fire rated ductwork usually needs to pass through compartment walls or floors that will have a prescribed fire resistance period in terms of the load-bearing capacity, integrity and insulation criteria, for durations of 30 to 240 minutes. It is a requirement that where these compartment walls/floors are penetrated by HVAC ducts or other building services, the fire performance criteria for the penetrated wall or floor are maintained, such that fire in one compartment may not spread to other areas.
